Corundum

Corundum is a crystalline form of aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) known for its high hardness and resistance to high temperatures. As a refractory raw material, it is used in the production of materials that must withstand extreme conditions, such as bricks, molds, and coatings for industrial furnaces. There are two main types of corundum used in refractory applications:

  1. Natural corundum: Extracted from mineral deposits.
  2. Synthetic corundum: Produced by fusing bauxite or calcined alumina at high temperatures.

Its use is prominent in the metallurgical, ceramic, and glass industries due to its excellent abrasion resistance, thermal stability, and ability to withstand thermal shock.
