Shot
Shot is widely used in industrial processes, especially in foundry and forging, as a surface preparation agent (mainly for cleaning and roughness) in a fast, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
When projected onto the surface of parts, it removes both process residues (such as sand and burrs) and oxide formations, while also providing a specific degree of roughness (depending on the different types and sizes of shot) suitable for subsequent processes and treatments.
Shot Peening
Smaller spherical shot is also used in Shot Peening processes, which aim to increase the fatigue resistance of components subjected to high stress.
The accumulation of micro-impacts caused by the granules evens out surface stresses generated during production processes (such as casting and forging), increasing surface hardness, fatigue resistance, and consequently, the service life of the parts.
